Sir: -
I am directed by the Board of Trade to acknowledge
the receipt of your letter of the 17th October (No.36200)
transmitting copy of a letter received from Mr. C. Czarnikow,
relative to the importation of Formosen sugar into Hong Kong,
together with a draft of the reply which it is proposed to
return thereto.
In reply, I am to point out that the Hongkong Government
have enacted prohibitive legislation regarding the importa-
tion of bounty-fed sugar into the Colony under the "Sugar
Convention Ordinance No.14 of 1904", in order to give effect
to Article VIII of the Brussels Convention of 1902.
Article 2 of this Ordinance is as follows:-
